Frequently Asked Questions
What do I wear?
Wear anything you feel comfortable in that allows you to move freely.
We recommend leggings, exercise shirts, tank tops, t-shirts, shorts or loose pants.
Dress in layers so you are warm enough for the quiet work, and cool enough for the active work.
We do not recommend skirts as we do a lot of movement on the floor.
What do I bring?
All you need to bring is yourself, but you can bring whatever you feel you might need.
You may want to bring water, warm clothes (in case you feel chilly) or earplugs if you are sensitive to loud music. Depending on the workshop, you may want to bring a pillow and blanket.
I am not in good shape. Can I still come to class?
Yes. In all of our classes we encourage and support you in moving at your own pace and finding what rhythm is appropriate for your body. As you move through the Dance Alive System, you become more familiar with your bodyʼs limitations and then move from your baseline thus increasing your health and conditioning.
Will I feel awkward? Will I be the only new person?
Perhaps. Our classes are on going so, we never really know who will show up that day.
When you start any new class or process, it is natural and normal to feel awkward and/or out of place.
The more permission you can give yourself to feel whatever you are feeling, the easier it is to move forward and fully participate in the class. It is a very inviting, and friendly atmosphere.
Do I need to register?
Classes and Workshops do not require pre-registration, however they are currently near capacity so spots will be given on a first come first serve basis. To ensure your spot in a class or workshop sign up online or contact the Dance Alive Office. (See Policies page for exact registration guidelines).
Do I need any experience?
You do not need any experience to participate in our classes, however,
there are monthly movement requirements to enroll in Take Charge Now and Focus Pods.
Is it okay to eat before class?
We recommend that you eat 2 hours before class. If that is not possible, we recommend that you eat enough so you are not hungry and allow some time for the digestion process to take place. We do take a lunch break during the 4hr workshop Sundays, Intensives and Take Charge Now, and you can bring your own food or go out and get some (there is a great health food store a few blocks away and other restaurants nearby.
Make sure that you are well nourished, not just full. We recommend that you drink plenty of water during class, and bring your own water in a sealed container.
